Definition
An instrument consisting of an open or closed resonance chamber, a hollow, usually cylindrical shell with a tensioned hide membrane stretched over it; sometimes embellished with patterns. Used to produce sounds by hitting the drum head with the hand, a drumstick or a mallet.
