- A fabric or straw bonnet with a wide brim and a ruffle flounce or curtain at the back to cover the neck. The brim is designed to extend out over the face. It is tied under the chin. Used to protect a woman’s or a young girl’s head, neck, and shoulders from the sun. Also used as a fashion accessory.
