Definition
An undergarment of variable lengths, consisting of a petitcoat of stiffened cloth, such as net or tulle, distended with a framework of whalebone, metal, or cane hoops; or a series of graduated hoops (increasing in size from the waist downward) that is connected by ribbons or elastics. Used to add shape and fullness to a skirt or dress.
