- A fastening device consisting of a thin metal chain that is sometimes made of gold or silver that includes a small hook or clasp (for the watch) at one end and a small rod or bar that slides into a button hole or belt loop at the other. Used to hold a watch and to keep it attached through the buttonhole of a vest or bodice. Also used as a fashion accessory.
