Definition
Objects originally created to transport people or goods on or under water. Watercraft terms are generally organized by functional context; watercraft that may be used in multiple contexts are organized by size (boat, ship) or positional use (semisubmersible, subsurface), and organization at more specific levels take other properties, such as shape and power source, into account. Catalogers are encouraged to use multiple terms to cross-index as needed (e.g.: Ship, Clipper and Ship, Sailing; Whaleboat and Boat); some cross-referencing suggestions are made in notes below.
