Definition
An instrument consisting of a conical metal bore, often coiled in helicon-shape with a cup-shaped mouthpiece at one end and a medium-sized, slightly flared bell at the other end; equipped with a set of valves. Used to produce a sound via sympathetic vibration of the air in the mouthpiece. Also used as a part of a brass band.
