Definition
Small booklet or pamphlet, usually fewer than 40 pages and of limited-quantity print run, consisting of a cover and pages often with quality illustrations. Formerly peddled by chapmen and cheaply printed, used to distribute such texts as popular tales, treatises, ballads, poems or nursery rhymes. Used by contemporary small and independent literary presses to showcase new authors and collector’s pieces from established writers.
