Definition
A portable piece of furniture consisting of a framed rectangular panel that is made of tapestry, needlework, or hand paintings and that is either mounted on a four-legged base or an adjustable wooden pole with a tripod or flat base. Used in a parlor and a chamber to deflect the intense heat of the hearth fire and to protect the sitters from draughts.
