- Definition
- A cylindrical, upright pillar that is taller than its thickness and that usually consists of a shaft, a capital, and a base. It is made of a number of materials, such as wood, marble, granite, and iron. Used to support the upper part of a building, a balcony, or the like, but also largely used as a decorative feature.
